King Haile Selassie says---
We in Ethiopia have one of the oldest versions of the Bible, but however old the version may be, in whatever language it might be written the Word remains one and the same. It transcends all boundaries of empires and all conception of race. It is eternal.
No doubt you all remember reading in Acts of the Apostles of how Philip baptised the Ethiopian official. He is the first Ethiopian on record to have followed Christ, and from that day onwards the Word of God has continued to grow in the hearts of Ethiopians. And I might say for myself that from early childhood I was taught to appreciate the Bible and my love for it increases with the passage of time. All through my troubles I have found it a cause of infinite comfort. "Come unto me , all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."-- Who can resist an invitation so full of compassion?
Because of this personal experience in the goodness of the Bible, I was resolved that all my countrymen should also share its great blessings, and that by reading the bible they should find Truth for themselves. Therefore.... I caused a new translation to be made from our ancient language unto the language which the old and the young understood and spoke.
Today man sees all his hopes and aspirations crumbling before him. he is perplexed and knows not whither he is drifting. But he must realise that the bible is his refuge, and the ralling point for all humanity. In it man will find the solution of his present difficulties and guidance for his future actions, and unless he acepts with clear conscience the Bible and its great Message , he cannot hope for salvation. For my part I glory in the Bible.

" Loyalty inspires understanding and understanding coaperation; these are the dearest evidences of strenght. But the solid basis for all lies in education. It is education which allows people to live together, makes them avoid the pitfalls of immorality, and induces respect for the law. Truly the attainment to these high aims is based on education, the helping of people to live together, to avoid indulgence, immorality and lawlessness. Last year we spoke of Our determination to spread education throughout Ethiopia. The progress made in this respect, as well as the level reached during the past year, warrant great hope and make Us confident that the present and future generations of Ethiopia will move forward to the goal of full prosperity within the sound policy which we laid down for them."

"Because of the progress mankind has achieved and because of the difficulties that are at times part and parcel of progress and prosperity, we find ourselves at a crossroad where we might make the world safe for our future generations or we might all perish together.

"Because of the exemplary character of the life of Jes-us Christ it is necessary that all men do their maximum in their human efforts to see to it that they approximate as much as they can the good example that has been set by HIM.
It's quite true that there is no true perfection in humanity. From time to time we make mistakes. We do commit sins, but even as we do that, deep in our hearts as Christians we know we have a chance of forgiveness from the Almighty. He taught us that all men are equal regardless of sex, their national origin and tribe. And He also taught us all who seek HIM shall find HIM. To live in this healthy life, a Christian life, is makes me follow Jes-us Christ.
Read and Study the Bible
Dr Hoffman: "Your Imperial Majesty, what advice would you give a person who is considering the claims of Christ, perhaps for the first time?"
H.I.M : "I would tell a person who was considering the claim of Christ for the first time that it is necessary to have faith in the Almighty, that it is necessary to have love, and that it is necessary to conduct oneself in a manner that we have been taught to do in the Bible. I would advise him to read and to study the Bible.
I would also advise him to seek the secular knowledge, for the more one knows the more he realises the need for a prime mover, the need for a Creator, a Creator who is good, and the need for salvation and also for peaceful life upon earth.
I would also tell him to learn and to think for himself the ways he would serve the Lord. In this thought and in this undertaking of his he will inevitably find the way of serving his fellow men. For his faith would then be manifested by His conduct. If Christians behave in this way, if we dedicate ourselves to this fundamental task, then we will have a peaceful world and will be assured of not transgressing against the will and the Commandments of God."
Strength of Faith
Dr Hoffman: "Your Imperial Majesty, are there any incidents in your life which stand in your memory as times when faith in Christ sustained you?"
H.I.M: "There are many instances in my life where the belief in The Almighty and the Christian faith have sustained me, times of trouble and difficulties. No matter what may befall a human being he can always succeed in overcoming it in time if he has the strength if faith and praise to God, for inevitably He comes to the assistance of those that believe in HIM and those that through their work live an exemplary life."
